In 2017, A4LE leadership convened representatives from all eight global regions to map out a course for the future of the association. These goals and objectives for the next 3-5 years will be carried out by three newly formed Steering Committees:
Membership | Knowledge Center | Development
These committees will recruit volunteer members throughout the association to serve on task forces, subcommittees and work groups in an effort to bring our goals to fruition.
These goals can only be achieved through the hard work of our dedicated members. We urge you to get involved with your chapter and region, and as we move forward, we will need members with passion and expertise in the many areas the strategic plan addresses.
OUR ASSOCIATION’S GREATEST ASSET IS YOU!

Mission: Leading innovation at the intersection of learning and place.
Vision: A world in which place is a catalyst for inspired learning. Connected professionals imagining, promoting, and realizing that vision.
Summary: The Association for Learning Environments is pleased to present the 2017 Strategic Plan. This plan, created by leaders from around the association and formally adopted by the association’s board of directors, is intended to be a living document and remain nimble enough to address the ever-changing needs in education and the environments that serve all learners. The goals set forth in this plan are broad based and designed specifically to include immediate objectives as well as provide flexibility to add future initiatives.
Method: Prior to developing the plan, the association formulated a new volunteer committee structure consisting of three steering committees. These steering committees will be strategic bodies that work on behalf of the board of directors to bring the goals and objectives of the plan to fruition. The three committees are as follows; Membership, Development, and Knowledge Center. The board of directors will approve and prioritize the work and work plans of the steering committees. These three main areas will serve as the primary strategic focuses of the association. Each steering committee will appoint a series of subcommittees, task forces, and working groups to carry out the work of the plan. The association executive committee and a strategic plan facilitation team conducted a series of research, needs assessment, and member surveys in preparation for bringing together leaders from across the association. During March 2017, the board of directors and a team consisting of members from all eight geographic regions of the association met in New Orleans to develop the framework and general goals of the plan. From that meeting, the steering committees were populated by members of the initial planning team and spent the next several months refining the goals and adding objectives to the plan. In July 2017, the board of directors met in Singapore and approved the finalized strategic plan. The plan establishes new Mission and Vison statements as well as the stated goals and objectives under each steering committee area.
